The mission of the placement:

Help service users to become more independent with assistance support. 

Activities:

Your main task will be to provide personal support to people using the services of Archa. You will participate in free time activities such as playing board games, going for walks, visiting coffee shops or restaurants. Leisure activities are as well based on service users’ preferences and interests.  It will be great if you can accompany clients to various cultural events such as concerts, theatre, cinema etc. You can participate in special training such as cooking, baking, cleaning, laundry or shopping which teach clients to be more independent. You can accompany them to social institutions such as doctors, hairdressers, post offices etc.

Preferred personal traits:

  • Be able to work with people with mental disabilities
  • An advantage is to be able to play a musical instrument

Events throughout the year:

The Archa centre frequently participates in various public events. One of these is a social project ‘Sousedské snídaně’ (Neighbourhood breakfast). The aim of this project is to support and establish good and friendly relationships with the people living in the neighbourhood. People from the centre regularly meet with other colleagues SD.  The placement organises barbeque events for the service users during the summer season.  The volunteer is welcome to join all these events.

Growing through challenges:

  • Language barrier. Be prepared to communicate with your hands and feet especially during the first weeks. You must be willing to learn the Czech language.
  • You will get new knowledge about people with mental disabilities in social fields
  • You will gain a lot of pleasurable moments and memories through your work with service users, as well as having a good feeling that you taught them new things.
