Volunteer in Czechia

Volunteer in Czechia

It’s time to volunteer!

Do you want to live abroad?
Do you want to develop your talents?
Do you enjoy being challenged?

If you're a person with an open heart for others or you want to improve your professional skills and gain new experience, you are in the right place.  We would like to show you that voluntary service in the Czech Republic is much more meaningful and gives you much more than you might expect. The doors to new experiences are opening! It is your choice so take the first step and come in.

The voluntary year brings you a chance to explore a new country and its culture. You will be part of the local community and they are pleased to share Czech habits and customs with you. It’s a time to meet new friends, travel to new places and learn about yourself. You’ll get a special opportunity to share your own ideas and for self-realisation during mini projects with those you work with, depending on your interest, hobbies and creativity. Your journey will definitely be challenging, but you will participate in many seminars to get new inspiration and meet other volunteers.

You will never be alone during the service. The supervisor will support you in your workplace. The mentor will provide you with many tips for spending your leisure time. The volunteers from the different parts of the world will share and enjoy joyful moments with you. Coordinators will encourage you in your learning journey and self-growth. You, as a volunteer, will bring new energy and enthusiasm to the lives of those you work with and for.

Who can apply for voluntary service?

Everyone

The person with life or working experience or without. interVia provides an opportunity to all young people, regardless of their race, nationality, sexual orientation, confession, economic and social situation or health. The only condition is to be aged between 18 and 30 years and come from Europe and associated countries.

Who will I work with?

Who will welcome me at the workplace every day? The coordinator will help you to find a suitable group to work with, based on your preferences and your openness to be challenged. Do you prefer to work with adult people or do you want to gain more experience with socially excluded children? We want you to feel comfortable at your work. You can choose the group and the coordinators will make a final decision about a specific placement and venue.
Here you can find full selection of the groups we work with:

Adult with disabilities

People are sometimes watching “disabilities” through their fingers. They think they are different, but in fact  no “they” exists, because inside we are all the same. Those people could teach you to destroy all preconceptions and inspire you for your life. If you open your eyes, you will discover the enrichment of everyday as a benefit from the work with this group of people.

”I worked in Jordan in Trinec last year. I slowly grew to understand the kind of lives our clients lived and what it was which led them all to the unique circumstances they find themselves in today. At the same time, I found I could connect with them better the more time I spent with each client. As long as you're open to change and learning new skills, this year abroad can offer you more than you imagine."

(William, volunteer 2020/2021)

Elderly people

“Solidarity is a feeling that you are not alone, but you are with others in the community.”

(Alisa, volunteer 2020/2021)

Elderly people are well of wisdom thanks to their rich life experience. They are often more than happy to share it by storytelling. You also are invited to draw from the well and to share your presence, skills and talents.

In the placements we offer below, you can work with elderly people who have open hearts as well as arms for YOU!

“During my first lunch time on the placement, they tell me I can help. I feel someone watching and suddenly, I see a big smile, so I smile cordially back. Now, I will come to work every day just to see the lady’s smile and tell her how she is doing a great job by holding the spoon on her own!

(Alisa, volunteer 2020/2021)

Substance users

Sometimes dark shadows can appear in our lives. The difference depends on how we fight with unfavourable situations. Help people, who did not find enough power and encouragement. Don’t turn away your eyes but look into dangerous situations which can be vulnerable for many young people.  A non-functional family, broken relationships, a high-risk way of living, educational problems, conflict relations with society or searching for an own place in the world. The obstacles are common for all people, regardless of their intensity and they might always be defeated.

Why the work in this field?

”I really enjoy work outside, out of the office walls with freedom and unfetteredness, as same as our clients. Those who are also my teachers. And what are they teaching me? To know better myself, my virtue, my opinions, to understand my feelings. I believe in relationships, who are precious holders of pleasures and sense of our lives. In the drug areas we imagine each relationship as a little flower seed, supporting it by water first and with our attendance it grows in a beautiful rose one day, and it will give us a lot of pleasure.”

(Beáta, supervisor 2021/2022)

Children with disabilities

“It shouldn’t matter how slowly a child learns. What matters is that we encourage them to never stop trying.”

This quotation from Robert John Meehan cannot be truer for work with children with disabilities. Most of the placements we offer for you to work in are schools and centres where children are taught new skills or where those skills they already have are further developed. The process is slow and requires a lot of patience and an encouraging approach. Either you have these personal gifts, or you want to gain them, go ahead and apply for one of the placement offers below!

“It has never been my plan to work with people with disabilities, I can actually confess that I was absolutely unaware of that aspect of human life. But it gave me that perspective of something essential that was missing in my previous life.”

(Tamari, volunteer 2019/2020)

Children at risk

Childhood is supposed to be the most beautiful period of our lives.  The time without any worries, the occasion for discovering the surrounding world.  The supporting conditions and a friendly environment are a necessity for healthy growth. It should be evident, but not every child can have this lovely care. Suddenly this part of our lives could be absolutely unhelpful for growing. Let’s return the smiles to children’s faces, let’s show them the right direction and life priorities. Become an inspiration and teach them how they can spend their leisure time effectively and meaningfully by entertaining themselves. We should make their foundations stronger, to build and be prepared for their future.

The children regularly visit the clubs in our placements in order to spend their free time actively. The social workers go outside into the streets simultaneously and they directly contact new clients. They give a helping hand to all of them without any difference. They solve crisis situations or accompany clients to institutions personally. They offer counselling to each of them on a personal basis.  You have a special opportunity to join a team and get to know their clients better, not only in the clubs, but also in the area, by going out.

”For me, working with excluded children means being present for them and supporting them in their growth, giving them tools to see inside themselves and in the group strength and beauty.”

(Erica, volunteer 2021/2022)
