Christmas songs in September?

"Hello, I’m Josi and I work in the school in Old Bohumin. At work I usually stay in a small class with seven students that are around 15 and 16 years old.My tasks in the classroom include helping students with assignments or serving food at lunch, but I also spend a lot of time making small crafts out of cardboard and wool.

A typical school day consists of the same subjects as in any other school. For example, Maths, Czech and Science, but also Sports, Art and Music. Occasionally, my class also goes on little trips and walks, which I enjoy very much. On our last trip, we went to the local library to learn more about forests and the animals that live there.

My favorite time of the day is definitely the time after lunch when the students have some time to do what they want. Most days I spend this time playing board games with some of the students. Even though we don’t understand each other it is a lot of fun and playing many rounds of „Dobble“ even helped me with learning some new Czech words.

I am not understanding a lot of Czech yet, which can also lead to slightly confusing situations for me, such as the day all of the students in my school met in one room and started singing Christmas Songs in September. It turns out that the whole school meets once a week to rehearse a Christmas performance to be performed in front of senior citizens in December. However, when I didn't know what was happening there, the situation was very bizarre for me.

I’ve had a great time so far and am looking forward to the next few months in my school." (Jozi, Bohumín)
