An introduction to Spanish Cuisine with Juan

Juan comes from Spain and he is a volunteer at school of Slezská diakonie in Ostrava, where he works with children and young adults with disabilities. His supervisor shared with us how they enjoyed Juan's miniprojects.

"Juan decided to introduce us to his own Spanish cuisine. His first dish was a special steak made of chicken, han and cheese,"Filetes rellenos de jamón y queso". Everything was artfully packaged in a rather thick roll, wrapped in a triple wrapper and the best part at the end - quite shocking to us - the method of pan frying - he fried it for a long, long time to the 3rd degree from 9...The result was great, juicy and beautifully seared."

"On Friday, January 20,2023, we once again witnessed Juan's culinary art. He says he has to get used to our Czech food and so, out of the need to survive here :), he came up with this mini-project so that at least sometimes he eats what he is used to from Spain...and for us it is a great opportunity to experience something new, new tastes, smells, and ways of preparing food."

"This Friday we had a dish called " Pan con tomate", which translates to "Bread with tomatoes". We bought a square shaped whole wheat bread, cut it into slices and used it to cover two whole baking sheets. We baked these breads in the oven until crispy. Then under the guidance of Juan, we cut cherry tomatoes, cleaned garlic (there was a lot of it... for health you have to endure something...). Then we rubbed the slices with olive oil, rubbed the garlic heavily, covered them with cherry tomato halves and the work was done. It was so good that this Spanish dish was only a few minutes on the table and it was over...luckily they brought a proper school lunch not long afterwards :). We all enjoyed cooking with Juan."
