Let's visit Eden with Canay

Canay comes from Turkey and she is a volunteer at Eden, center for adults with middle - severe mental disabilities, in Český Těšín. Let's find out more about her miniprojects.

Our Turkish Cookies Making Event

"We wanted to make special cookies for Christmas. The cookies we made together with clients are one of the cookies that families often make for their children in Turkey. I have planned this event as a day where they can both get to know my own culture and celebrate the days that are special for the Czech Republic. The cookies we made were an activity aimed at increasing handcraft and establishing cooperation."

Canvas Painting Activity

"This activity is about the field of painting that I am particularly interested in. I thought  I could convey my knowledge and experience in this field. We established a deeper bond with our clients by doing a one-to-one activity. At the same time, colors evoke different emotions in people. We created a beautiful composition using colors. Our clients made back ground and I draw picture and that coloured or dyed big black space. It was an art-filled event that was quite fun and creative."

Potato Printing Activity

"This activity is one of the traditional activities in Turkey. Every child in kindergarted and primary school has grown up doing this activity. We cut the potatoes that we cut in half by drawing shapes. Then we paint the shapes and print them on paper. We create a composition on paper with the shapes we draw. In this event, clients were given the opportunity to use their imaginations and create the composition they wanted. Clients exchanged potatoes with each other and collaborated. Thus, both their creativity and collaboration increased."

Introducing Myself and My Country Presentation

"This activity was the first activity I did to communicate when I came to Czechia. Who am I? Where did I come from? What kind of family do I have? What kind of culture do I have? It was a presentation where I answered questions and made a presentation. I wanted to introduce myself to both my colleagues and to my customers. Because I thought it was the first way to communicate. It was an activity that helped us to find topics to talk and discuss and to comunicate well."

Traditional Turkish Coffee and its Meaning

"Turkish coffee is very important for Turkish culture (my nationality). We have too many traditions involving Turkish coffee and we attach too much meaning to Turkish coffee. Drinking Turkish coffee together is a tradition that has different meanings such as making friends, establishing a new family, learning about the future. I planned this event to teach my own culture and communicate well with my colleagues, and I made Turkish coffee for all my colleagues and they helped by translating the traditions I described into Czech for me. Thus, we strengthened our bond." Canay
