Activities:

Your main activity will be the direct work with students at the secondary school, providing them with personal support in all of their activities (Morning community circle, practical activities, physical activities, relaxation techniques, music therapy, art therapy, snoezelen therapy etc.) You will also support the students individually and help the teacher during classes such as maths, writing, reading, music, art, craft, practical education - cooking etc. You will also be part of the out of school activities such as excursions, trips, minigolf, swimming and other sport activities. Among all of these activities, you will help the students with movement around the school, dressing or at mealtime. You are more than welcome to use your gifts and skills in any of the classes or activities. If you are a creative person, decorations of classrooms or hallways are always appreciated.

  • Proactive in the work with students as well as in learning the Czech language

Events throughout the year:

During the year, you will have the chance to participate in performances with the students and pupils within the school and for other institutions and organisations and for parents, for example so called Radovánky or various Christmas or Easter celebrations, Mother’s Day, New Years’ service etc.

The challenges you may face and grow through are:

  • Most of your co-workers don’t speak English - You will have to learn Czech ‘on the go’ for yourself as well as in Czech lessons. You will need to find new ways of communicating
  • Overcoming fears of work with children with disabilities - you will learn how to be unafraid and to help people with disabilities.
  • Overcoming various prejudices - how to keep an open mind and how to work personally with each student.
