The project is for: someone who is excited to explore a wide range of diaconia & social work, is passionate about PR and social media and is open to help people with disabilities.
Address:  Na nivách 7, 737 01 Český Těšín
Duration: September - August (12 months)

The mission of the project:

The volunteer Ambassador by Experience activity is a way of mutual learning, which makes it possible to get to know different types of social service centers within short-term visits (3 days of week) eg. social-therapeutic workshops, low-threshold facilities, sheltered housing, streetwork with children and young people, day care centers and diaconal schools (kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, high schools). This will offer you a space to explore and learn with the other volunteers (peer learning) who are part of these centers.

Thanks to the diversity of this project, you will learn the true meaning of international volunteering that you will spread as an volunteer influencer via different resources (e.g. picture, videos, etc in different platforms, for example on social media)

Secondly, this activity will allow you to work for a long time at one center (2 days of week) with the disabled people.

Activities

Your main activities in Public relations and tandem volunteering will be:

-  To journal the experience of volunteering and develop a plan how to transmit it to the peers,
 - to create and collect materials for promotion such as photos, videos or articles for the development of social media content (facebook, instagram, Tiktok, interVIA webpage, Youtube),
-  to prepare a short videos (reels) and other posts for e.g. social medias mentioned above,
-  to involve other international volunteers, staff and user in the creation of the publicity material using of different platforms and design programmes, e.g. Canva,
- make contact with the public institutions (for example schools) and share your own experience at the discussion rounds with the students and their teachers.

Your main activities in the center with disabled people will be:

- To help the service users with specific tasks depending on their needs,
- to spend individual time with the users to fulfill their leisure time  (listening music, reading books, playing board games, talking, walking, doing exercise)

Preferred personal traits:

  • Independence and flexibility
  • Good management skills
  • Have at least basic experience in PR and social media
  • Creativity
  • Open to reach out the other people despite the language barrier and open to learn with & from them
  • Have respect for people in difficult life situations

Events throughout the year:

Slezska Diakonie and its centers regularly prepare and participate in many public events where they present services or give their clients the opportunity to explore new things. As an ambassador, you will have the opportunity to attend events as you see appropriate to your role.

You will spread the idea of volunteering through regular visits to local schools and motivate young people to make the world a better place. Many young people are apprehensive about serving or working with disabled people. If needed, you will communicate with them about these concerns.

You will  have the opportunity to reflect on the whole experience with other volunteers in our seminars, which will give you new horizons and get to know the volunteers better.

Growing through challenges:

  • This project will not enrich you only personally, but you can also use a lot of experience in your professional life. However, due to the complexity and multitasking, it is really important to be able to plan well, meet the deadlines and have a positive attitude. Prepare for frequent traveling, as centers of Slezska Diakonie are located in other towns throughout the Moravian-Silesian Region. You will be using public transport, so it is important to be able to adapt quickly to a new environment.
  • Meeting new people will be your daily bread. You shouldn't be afraid to communicate with people despite the language barrier, because many people don't speak English.
